my school teaches us to do convergent walls. why do you guys do diverging since amalgam is held in place via mechanical means than bonding.

@ntndshre1 that's right... not mentioned, could it be that using bases is rather new? or is it that they dont do it in cases with no pulp exposure... anyway, this vids are obsolete.

amalgam has tons of disadvantages...although is reduces micro lekage......

spreading of the cement in the prepared cavity is essential as base so why it is not done in this video.cement is placed as base in cavity, varnish onthe walls than silver amalgam as filling material.

new materials like composite right?
fetymann (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
ok, I must be ignorant, what are these "new materials" you're referring to?
adrianglennbionat (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
amalgam is no longer usually used today for we have newer materials. but the prep is still the same... though amalgam is still superior in strength compared to all other newer materials...... amalgam restorations up to 50 years.... a totally inefficient way of killing people... if you know any better, by all means, tell us.... we'd really appreciate it. that statement is both arrogant and ignorant.
